Privacy and data protection

This notice explains what we collect when you use rickytan.com, why, and the rights you and your family member have under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Written plainly, because the people it protects deserve to actually read it.

Who we are

Anything in this notice, any question about your data, and any request to see, correct or delete it goes to the DPO. You will get an answer within 30 days.

What we collect through the booking form

  • About you (the person booking): your name, your relationship to the person we are helping, your email, your phone or WhatsApp number.
  • About the person we will help: their name, their area or estate, the language or dialect they are most comfortable in, what is happening with their technology, and anything you tell us about mobility, hearing or who should be present.
  • Technical records: the time the form was submitted, your IP address, the page the form was sent from, and the version of the consent wording you agreed to. We keep these as proof of consent, as the PDPA expects.

Data about a third party — the older adult

Most bookings are made by a family member, which means you give us personal data about someone else. This is the part of the law most services in this space ignore, and we do not want to:

  • By booking, you confirm that the person you are booking for knows a visit is being arranged and is comfortable with it.
  • Our lawful basis for holding their data is that it is necessary to provide the visit they have agreed to, and the legitimate interest of keeping them safe (for example, knowing about mobility or hearing needs before we enter their home).
  • At the visit, Ricky tells them, in plain language, what information we hold about them and why. They can ask to see it, correct it or have it deleted at any time — the same rights as yours, below.
  • If the family asks for a written summary after a visit, that is a separate consent — and the older person is always told it is happening. We never send a report about someone behind their back.

How we use the data

  • To arrange and carry out the visit, and to contact you about that booking.
  • To send a visit summary to the family — only if the family-update consent box was ticked.
  • To send occasional news or seasonal reminders — only with the separate marketing consent, and even then only after you confirm your address a second time by email (double opt-in). Unconfirmed addresses are deleted after 7 days.

Unsubscribing from news never stops booking confirmations, visit summaries you asked for, or replies to your messages. Those are service emails, not marketing, and they keep working.

What we never do

  • We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. Ever.
  • We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
  • This website runs no advertising trackers and no analytics cookies. The only thing your browser stores is your text-size and language preference, on your own device.

Where the data lives and how long we keep it

Booking details arrive as email to ricky@rickytan.com and are logged in a protected file on our hosting account, outside the public web directory. We keep booking records for up to 2 years so we can honour the Family Plan and answer questions about past visits, then delete them. You can ask for earlier deletion at any time.

Your rights

You — and the person you booked for — may at any time:

  • ask what personal data we hold and how it has been used;
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
  • withdraw consent, or ask us to delete the data.

Write to the DPO at ricky@rickytan.com or ring 9090 8383. If you are not satisfied with the answer, you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission of Singapore (pdpc.gov.sg).

Changes to this notice

If we change what we collect or how we use it, this page changes first, with a new date at the top and a new consent wording version. Bookings made earlier stay under the wording you agreed to — that is exactly what the version number is for.
