The person behind the name
About Ricky, and how to reach him.
People book a person, not a service. So here he is — the shop, the twenty-five years, and every way to get in touch.
Twenty-five years at Sim Lim Square
Ricky Tan opened his computer and laptop repair shop at Sim Lim Square in 2000. Everyone knows Sim Lim's reputation — customers arrive cautious, and Ricky has spent twenty-five years being the reason they leave relieved. The reviews repeat one thing: honest, transparent, never upsells.
Over those years his customers grew older. The questions at the counter changed — less about dead hard disks, more about Singpass, about video calls with grandchildren in Melbourne, about a frightening voicemail from a “bank”. Ricky found himself doing more teaching than repairing, and doing it gladly.
The in-home service is that teaching, taken seriously. The shop continues exactly as it always has — same unit, same hours, same rule: no repair, no charge.
What customers and families say — in full
Everyone is cautious dealing with merchants at Sim Lim Square, but our experience with Ricky was nothing but amazing. He dispenses honest advice while never trying to upsell. A hidden gem in Sim Lim Square.
Quoted me a price before touching anything, fixed the laptop in a day, and told me honestly that my other machine was not worth repairing. Who talks themselves out of a sale? Ricky does.
Ricky spent two hours with my mother and never once made her feel slow. She video-called my sister in London that same night, by herself. That has never happened before. Worth every cent.
My father nearly transferred $8,000 to a “bank officer”. After the scam-proofing visit he calls Ricky first now, every time, and he is proud of it rather than embarrassed. That change in him is the real service.
I live in Hong Kong and my parents are in Toa Payoh. After every visit I get a short note saying what was done. It is the closest thing to being there myself, and my father likes Ricky — which, if you knew my father, is the highest review on this page.
He wrote the wifi password on paper in letters two centimetres tall and taped it inside the kitchen cabinet door. My grandmother found it by herself. Small thing. Everything is small things, done properly.
